New Car!

Today's highlight: we picked up our new car, a Passat TDI 140. The BMW 5 Touring we inherited when Peter's parents bought a new one has been great - engine power, comfort and security - but in the last one-two years we had to replace the generator and the engine and fix a few other things and by the time we sold it the battery was acting up too, so good riddance really!

I have also wanted a much more environmentally friendly car (and wouldn't have bought a BMW myself). The Passat has a pretty strong engine and runs on diesel - satisfying Peter's driving experience wants - but emits under 120 mg (on average, not always in city traffic though), and so falls under the green car definition.

We chose between Passat and Volvo V50 but realised the bigger Passat was much better for a growing family with car seats and prams and all other stuff children "need". I will miss the space for the handbag that the V50 has though (I know that such a girly thing to say but usually car designers don't think about these things so it's worth pointing out!)!

    Fin! En sån har vi hyrt till vår resa i helgen. Den enda bilen vi får plats i om man inte ska ha en buss :-)

    Grattis till nya bilen. Vi har också en VW, men en Golf kombi. Just nu fungerar den dock inte :(

    Love the new car! We just got a new (to us) Volvo and Love it!

    Another Stockholm question for ya- I've been several times (and lived there when I was younger) but I'm meeting two friends there at the end of June for 3 days, neither of them have ever been to Sweden- what would you say are the top few things I have to make sure they see? Tack sa mycket!!

    Coolt! Gillar den. Visst är den svart (om inte svart så i alla fall mörk), det tycker jag personligen är allra snyggast på alla sorters bilar. Aha, visste inte Volvo har den detaljen med handväskförvaring. Som du säger, så ovanligt med "kvinnligt" tänk för bildesign att det är värt påpeka. I Sverige har så många volvo så jag tycker ni valde rätt som inte valde volvo utan passaten. Skönt med kombi för er nu, som du säger så blir det mycket saker med barn. Helt otroligt hur mycket egentligen.

    Beverly - They seem to be good cars! My dad has had a number of them and we drove a Golf for a while but otherwise it's our first VW!

    Tales of a young mamma - I'd been happy with the Volvo too but Peter preferred the Passat for its engine and space :)

    Regarding Stockholm, this is what I wrote to a friend a few days ago: "I'd go to the Vasa museum (of course), definitely go on a boat tour (e.g. Sandhamn if she's coming now in the summer), visit Nationalmuseum (art tmuseum - I prefer this over modern art but that's me), Fotografiska (if she likes photography). I'm not so keen on vikings but I know you "foreigners" are so the History Museum for that. The Natural History Museum for a GREAT imax theatre. Nordiska museet if she wants to learn more about e.g. the samis and more modern (as in last 200 years) stuff in terms of how people (Scandinavians) lived, dress, etc. I'm not sure about the Stockholm card but it's probably worth it if they are doing lots of things. I would also go to the Old Town and Skansen of course, maybe take a walk in Tantolunden and the little plots/cottages. Hammarby sjöstad if she wants to see a new environmentally friendly city area by the water. For royal palace I'd go to Drottningholm rather than the one in town. Walk around Djurgården. Rosendals garden. Walk along the sea front past the City hall to Rålambshovs park."

    Saltistjejen - Tekniskt sett har inte jag heller det och fortfarande inte för både den här och förra bilen står på Peter :)

    Millan - Visst är den! Så ni har en V50. De är lite lika faktiskt, lite runda i formen.

    Annika - Den luktar nästan lite för mycket!

    Anne - Den är inte svart men mörkblå. Tycker också det är snyggare än ljusa bilar. Tycker t ex grå/silver är trist. Det var egentligen inte riktig handväskförvaring utan ett utrymme nederst på mittenpanelen så att säga där man kunde lägga grejer bakom. T ex en handväska i mindre/medelformat. Men vet egentligen om det tänkt så från början eller om det bara var en designdetalj. Det är verkligen otroligt hur mycket grejer vi redan samlat på oss till Isolde! Kram!
