Friday Gallery: Complementary Colours
Tricky topic Channal has chosen for today. Complementary colours. I remember learning in school - or maybe I read it somewhere - that the complementarity of red and green is the reason why surgeons and other medical staff (at the A&E mostly I guess) wear green clothes, so that blood won't be as visible, but I don't know if this is the only or main reason.

Home Styling à la Mental Institution
We're hoping to buy a bigger flat within the next few months or so, but this is one flat we're NOT going to buy! I know some people like white but this is just whiter than white. A Clockwork Orange comes to mind...
At least the child gets a few spots of colour...

Show & Tell: Yellow
Västmanländskan has taken over the baton in the Show & Tell relay for the month of April. I couldn't think of anything interesting to write so it will be mostly show today. The theme is yellow.
Did you know that the colours of the Swedish flag used to be reversed once upon a time?
Comes out mostly green I guess but this South African bush has light-yellow flowers. Though the spikes are more interesting of course.
The cactus fruit prickly pear, which grows in Malta, among other places.
Lions are yellow in a way - this is taken on one of the most amazing experiences I've had, when I was on safari (or game drive as they call it there) in South Africa.
Fire is yellow (or orange) - this is probably the world's most recognisable flame, at JFK's grave in Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C.
Beautiful rose in, if I remember correctly, Regent's Park in London.
Gold is a yellow of sorts - this is the gold doors to the bell tower next to the cathedral in Florence.
Yellow firepost in Newport, Rhode Island (USA) - don't think they come in that colour that often?
These cool little cactuses grow all over Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands.
Breakfast at a beautiful little B&B (Auberge Clermont) in the wine district in South Africa.
Lemons at the same B&B (and wine and fruit farm).

Show & Tell: Colourful
Désirée in Alabama has created this month's Show & Tell themes. And anyone can join in the fun!

Since Désirée said to be very creative with today's theme I thought I'd just blog about something colourful that I remember from my childhood. Not brightly coloured perhaps but a specific colour scheme, albeit a pale one.
It's a jigsaw puzzle that was a big favourite of mine, especially when I was sick and had to stay home from school. I used to play with it at an age where I was way too old for it (as a teenager), but it was cute and a nice pastime when you were ill and bedstruck. I used to have a tray on my lap (a red one in wood) on which I practised my creative skills (though I could probably do that particular puzzle in my sleep).
Anyway, the puzzle was a set of three with different motifs portraying the life of a cat family. It was just a mother and her kittens I think; I guess fathers are not too present in the cat world :) I think there was one kitchen scene, one outdoors play picture and probably some sort of tucking in/nap scene though I could be mistaken.
The puzzle was - and this is where the colour theme comes in - pastel-coloured, a lot of baby pink and blue, although the cats were black I think. What I also liked about the puzzle was that the pieces were really thin and sort of rounded along the edges so theye were really soft to touch.
I hope the puzzle is still in my parents' attic somewhere - so I can take it out and see whether my memories are completely wrong and also, once I hade kids of my own, pass it onto them. (Maybe my mother who reads this blog and never comments *hint, hint* can confirm whether the puzzle is still around?! :)

Another White Thing - UPDATED
SNOW!! Finally, after a winter with no snow so far (except for a powderish layer once or twice), we got 1cm or so yesterday and a few minutes ago it started snowing again. Big snowflakes are slowly falling from the sky.

Show & Tell: Three White Things
Since I have been a total failure when it comes to posting photos from our trip to South Africa in December (to my defence I have posted a couple of hundred of them on Facebook) I thought I'd use my first go at Show & Tell (initiated by Norrskensbuddha) to give you a taste of South Africa. The instructions said "things" but I'm going to widen it a bit to fit my purposes.
White theme 1: Zebras - Just one example of all the cool animals we saw
White theme 2: Black and white - Our visit to Kliptown in Soweto, Johannesburg, symbolises the years of Apartheid in South Africa and the segregation that still exists
White theme 3: Seagull - Represents the beautiful and amazing nature and scenery we experienced in South Africa
