Maldivian Memories: Animals & Creatures

Petchie did a "What did I do one year ago" post recently, which inspired me to share some further images from our memorable* trip to the Maldives last year.

We arrived home on 6 April last year after eight days in paradise. In this post I have chosen to present some of the animal life we encountered. Unfortunately the underwater camera wasn't that water tight and started taking in water ahead of the longer snorkling trip Peter went on so we didn't get any really good photos of exotic fish.

Warning! Don't scroll down if you're afraid of spiders!

* Both for the gorgeous destination it is but also, and maybe most importantly, because it turned out to be our engagement trip!

Maldives: Food & Drink

Time for some more photos from the Maldives! Hope you're not bored with them already!

We were greeted with cold and fresh lemonade and some paperwork upon arrival

A daily feature during our week in paradise; a fruit drink. I think this particular one was pineapple and ginger - yummy!

Instead of squeezing our daily ration of oranges in the morning we opted for fresh juice at the beach instead; for breakfast we could choose betweeen five or six different juices from the breakfast buffet instead

We spent most of our lunches at the café by the pool like this; fruit drink and/or a beer and a game of cards.

Nice lunch with table cloth and linen napkins on our excursion to "Picknick Island", or Madhoo, its real name. The crew of skippers and chefs that brought/accompanied us to the island cooked us a really nice buffet that we could have eaten every day - delicious!

Maldivian version of the world's most famous drink?

The "fine dining" restaurant in our resort - we only ate their once though because the other two restaurants actually had more and more interesting selection on their menues. I like the open kitchen though.

My starter, fish soup

It doesn't show in the photo, well, you can see the sand, but the ocean is just out there

The main restaurant where we had breakfast every morning and also had dinner a couple of evenings. Every night was a new theme - we ate there on the evenings when there were Asian food; Italian we can have at home.

The dessert buffet was rather impressive though when it is 30-35 degrees I'm actually more interested in salt than sweet

Maldives in Pictures: Plants & Vegetation

(Avatar-looking) tree-swing

Palm trees and the like from the water

Coconut close-up

Peter's obligatory paparazzo shot :)

Peter having fun with the same Avatar tree as above

An obligatory for me; climbing a tree!

Classic view; sunset through palm trees

Beautiful flower of unknown kind; there was a constant smell of jasmine but this is not a jasmine as far as I know

And the same one but in another colour

Another beautiful flower

Several times a day these guys came and cleaned the beach from leaves that had blown into the water and algae from the sea. So, no guys, the beaches are not naturally that white and perfect that they appear.

When I posted this picture on Facebook one friend said it looked like Peter was dragging the tree. Hadn't thought of that! But no, he's strong but not that strong! :)

Bananas!
