Girly Week(end)

Peter whisked off to the airport in the wee hours of today to visit a friend in Israel for a few days so Isolde and I are on our own until Sunday evening.  Isolde's pre-school happens to be closed tomorrow and Friday for teachers' planning days so I've taken some leave and we have lots of fun things planned for the next few days, including the weekend.
  • Tomorrow Thursday we're meeting up with Malin and little rocker Jack for shopping and lunch in Skärholmen (I may pop over to Ikea if Isolde is in the mood afterwards).
  • Friday my mum and aunt (who's visiting from the west coast) are coming into town for shopping, lunch and fika, and they will also watch Isolde while I go to see my midwife*.
  • Saturday we go down to Södertälje in the morning and Isolde gets to spend the day with her grandparents (my parents) and my aunt while I go to see my good ol' girlfriends for a day of chatting, eating and massage (the massage therapist is coming to my friend's home).
  • Sunday we head back home after spending the night at my parents and have nothing definite planned for the rest of the day.   However, the first Sunday of the month is usually when we try to meet up with our parent group (mummy group that turned into a daddy group when the fathers took over).  Weather permitting it's the park and otherwise an indoor alternative (I think I'll invite them here for fika).

* First visit since the initial visit, except for the two scans.  When it's your second child they don't need to see you until towards the end of the second trimester (week 26 or 25+4 on Friday), unless you wish to see them before then or there are medical reasons for extra check-ups.

The Weekend

What a lovely weekend it was! Sunny gorgeous weather and time with family and friends. Saturday we took a long walk with our friend Jessica and had lunch at Blå porten.

On our way home we stopped by the swings in Humlegården. The playground was sooo crowded but the swings located outside the main play area were free just after a short wait.

Today my mum, my friend Malin with kids, and I (and Isolde of course) went to a children's bazar in Södertälje. I didn't find shoes in Isolde's size but some other things I was on the lookout for, e.g. a toy mirror and a baby snow sleigh. In terms of clothes I only bought a knitted sweater and a hat - Isolde has inherited about three wardrobes full from Malin's Elvina and Helena's girls and I've done my fair share of shopping so... The rest of the day Isolde and I hung out at my parents. My dad and brother had been out mushroom picking so they were busy cleaning them while my mum was playing with her grandchild and I got a well-deserved rest :)

Summer Remnants

We're spending the weekend at Peter's family's country house and today felt almost like summer with sunshine and shorts weather, even though autumn has definitely arrived; the evenings are chilly, the nights cold and the leaves will start turning soon. We spent most of the day on the grass with books, magazines and toys - and adults and child fighting over the iPhone... - except for a nice walk in the forest (didn't find any mushrooms though). Peter went for what's probably the last swim of the year - the water was 17 degrees. Actually he didn't spend that much time on a blanket compared to Isolde and me as he cleaned the car (mum - tell dad!) as well as the pram and cut the grass.

Sunday Fun

My Sunday: big brunch buffet at Enskede värdshus with friends, some shopping in Sickla and weekly cleaning of the flat.

For you, a funny list if you haven't had a laugh today (my favourites in italics):

1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

2. Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often.

3. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than standing in a garage makes you a car.

4. Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

5. If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before.

6. My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance.

7. Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.

8. It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

9. For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program.

10. If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the trip.

11. Bills travel through the mail at twice the speed of cheques.

12. A conscience is what hurts when all of your other parts feel so good.

13. Eat well, stay fit, die anyway.

14. Men are from earth, Women are from earth... Deal with it.

15. No man has ever been shot while doing the dishes.

16. A balanced diet is a biscuit in each hand.

17. Middle age is when broadness of the mind and narrowness of the waist change places.

18. Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.

19. Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it.

20. There is always one more imbecile than you counted on.

21. Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognise a mistake when you make it again.

22. By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.

23. Thou shalt not weigh more than thy fridge.

24. Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast to the real world.

25. It's not the jeans that make your bum look fat.

26. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings".

27. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".

28. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

29. You should not confuse your career with your life.

30. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

31. Never lick a steak knife.

32. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.

33. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we put the clocks back.

34. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

35. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.

36. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.

37. A person, who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person.

38. Your friends love you anyway.

39. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
