Iraq? Nah, never heard of it

National Geographic reports that young Americans do not where Iraq is. Despite the US having invaded the country twice and having fought a war there for the past three years, a war that features in the news basically every day, two of three or 63 % youths between 18 and 24 could not point out Iraq on a map. Even fewer knew where Israel or Iran are situated. Moreover, and maybe this is the most scary result, only 50 % could locate New York...

And these are the people that will run that country in the future...

  1. honey, our geography skills in the US have always been sh*tty. Where ya been? You’re right, it is terrifying to think that these folks might someday lead the United States, but think about this:

The US consistently scores behind most of the rest of the world in standardized tests in maths, sciences, and even our native language. Public schooling in the US is broken.

The really bad thing is that it isn't just kids. NPR regularly does segments where they will ask people visiting national monuments in Washington, DC, from all over the country about current events and every time, every single time, they get about 6 adults who have no idea what they're talking about. It is really frustrating.

Forlåt att jag skrev så lange på din blog, men det är nåt att jag känner stark om. Tusen tack!
